JAL has jointly developed and begun operating a belt with medical supply manufacturer Dia Kogyo to support the sitting posture in aircraft.

An auxiliary belt for passengers with physical disabilities or those who have difficulty maintaining a seated position (sitting with the upper body up) due to illness or injury, to secure the upper body to the backrest while wearing a seatbelt in the seat.

There are two types to choose from according to body conditions: the vest type (abdominal belt 10.3 cm wide and 288 cm long) is worn like a vest on the upper body and secured together with the backrest of the seat. The belt type (13 cm wide and 138 cm long) is in the form of a single strip and can be secured to the legs, abdomen, chest, etc. as needed.

Compared to conventional products, this design is said to provide greater stability by securing the passenger and the back of the seat over a larger area. In addition, the belt no longer interferes with the rear seat when secured, allowing for more flexible seat assignments.

JAL has already introduced a total of 110 items, 55 each of the vest and belt types, which are available free of charge to those who wish to use them. The deadline for application is 96 hours prior to flight departure. Some seats may not be available, so advance confirmation is required.
