JR Tokai announced that it will introduce “semi-private room type” upper-class seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen. The service is scheduled to begin by the end of fiscal year 2027.

Together with the “private room type” upper class seats, which will be in service in the fall of 2026, the company plans to offer even higher quality facilities and services than the Green Car.

The semi-private type seating will be introduced in some N700S trains, with six seats in Car 10. A door with a lock is provided between the aisle and the seats for access, and large backshell type seats are used to ensure a high sense of privacy.

The seats are reclining seats with leg rests, dedicated Wi-Fi and luggage space. Seats can be converted for face-to-face use.
