JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with South African Vice President Paul Mashatille in Tokyo on March 17.
In his opening remarks, Vice President Mashatile thanked JICA for its cooperation in South Africa.
In response, President Tanaka stated that South Africa is at the core of regional integration and intra-regional development in Southern Africa, and that he looks forward to South Africa’s leadership at this summer’s 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). He also stated that JICA would like to support South Africa’s efforts in the field of renewable energy to realize a decarbonized society.
Furthermore, the two sides had constructive discussions on a wide range of topics, including human resource development through vocational training and scientific and technological collaboration.
