Honduras Signs Loan Agreement for SME Support Project (Overseas Investment and Loan): Contributing to the Financial Inclusion of SMEs, Including Women Businesses | News & Press Releases

On December 24, 2024, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with Banco del País, S.A. (“Banpais”) of the Republic of Honduras. (“Banpais”) of the Republic of Honduras on December 24, 2024, and a ceremony was held in the country on February 12, 2025 to commemorate the signing.

This project is the first overseas investment and loan for the Republic of Honduras, and will be cofinanced with the International Finance Corporation.

Business Objectives

This project aims to improve access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including women-owned businesses, in the Republic of Honduras by providing loans to Banpais, thereby contributing to the promotion of SMEs, job creation, and improvement of gender disparities in the country.

Business Overview

At least 30% of the JICA loan will be used to finance SMEs run by women.
