On January 22, Seibu Railway announced that all three trains of the Yamaguchi Line (Leoliner) will be renewed sequentially from FY2025 to FY2027.

The 8500 Series, introduced when the Yamaguchi Line first opened in 1985, will be replaced with a new type of train. The current cross-seat configuration will be replaced with long seats to enhance transportation capacity. In addition, “kids SEAT” will be installed in the front seats so that parents and children can enjoy the front windows of the train.

The design of the first train was studied by a group of employees of Seibu Railway, the Seibu Lions, and Seibuen Yuenchi, and was inspired by the Saitama Seibu Lions, whose home base is at Belluna Dome. The designs for the second and subsequent trains are scheduled to be unveiled in FY2025 or later.
