Hokkaido Shinkansen to operate through the Seikan Tunnel at a maximum speed of 260 km/h in GW. Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto route shortened by 5 minutes to a maximum of 3 hours and 52 minutes.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that the maximum speed of the Hokkaido Shinkansen line will be increased to 260 km/h in the Seikan Tunnel during the Golden Week holiday period in 2025.

The affected trains are the Shinkansen trains running in the Seikan Tunnel between the first departure and midnight on May 3 and between the first departure and 3:30 p.m. on May 4-7. 10 up and down trains on May 3 and 14 up and down trains each day from May 4 to 7 are affected. The maximum speed will be increased from the normal 160 km/h to 260 km/h, and the travel time between Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate will be 5 minutes shorter than the normal maximum speed of 3 hours 57 minutes.
